The Senior Officials of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) visited Kanazawa University

From April 24 to 25, Hiroshi Masuko, Director-General of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), along with Takehito Morishima, Deputy Director of the General Affairs Division, and Nozomu Tsuzawa, Senior Coordinator for University and Research Budget at the Department of Research Promotion, visited Kanazawa University. They toured the university’s Joint Usage/Research Centers—the Research Center for Environmental Preservation in the Japan Sea Area and the Cancer Research Institute.

On the 24th, they visited the marine experiment facility of Institute of Nature and Environmental Technology in Noto Town, and received explanations on the activities of the facility from Professor Seiya Nagao and Professor Nobuo Suzuki, the directors of the center, and inspected the damage to the building and other facilities caused by the Noto Peninsula earthquake 2024.
They also visited Noto Center for Fisheries Science and Technology of the College of Science and Engineering, located also in Noto Town, and received an explanation of their research activities on puffer fish and other aquaculture from Professor Hajime Matsubara from the Institute of Science and Engineering, Faculty of Biological Science and Technology.
After that, they moved to the Kakuma Campus, where Kanazawa University President Takashi Wada gave an overview of the university.

On the 25th, the group visited Cancer Research Institute on the Kakuma campus, where the director, Professor Takeshi Suzuki , explained about cancer research efforts at Kanazawa University and exchanged views with the group. They also toured the laboratory of the institute and received an overview of research from Professor Yoshikazu Johmura from the Division of Cancer and Aging Biology.
In addition, they received an explanation of the research activities at Institute of Nature and Environmental Technology from Dr. Nagao, Director of the Center, and exchanged opinions, followed by a tour of the common laboratory in the Center.

Finally, the group visited the uture Intelligence Demonstration Center, a research hub selected in December 2023 under the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) initiative, "J-PEAKS" (Program for Forming Japan’s Peak Research Universities). They exchanged views on specific projects that integrate knowledge from humanities, science, and medicine to address social challenges.??????
