On May 1, the Frontier Science and Social Co-creation Initiative conducted an organic sake rice planting tour at the "Noguchi Naohiko Research Institute" as part of Project: AERU (※). 12 students and faculty members from Kanazawa University participated in the tour.

Last year, Kanazawa University collaborated with the "Noguchi Naohiko Research Institute" to develop the "Kanazawa University Original Sake," which is scheduled for release after June this year. This rice planting tour was a valuable opportunity for participants to take part in cultivating Gohyakumangoku sake rice, which will be used in the 2025 edition of Kanazawa University's original sake. The event was made possible with the cooperation of Gokokuji Farm.

Participants took part in loading seedlings and fertilizer onto the rice-planting machine and also had the opportunity to operate the machine themselves, experiencing the rice planting process firsthand.

Participants shared their impressions, saying, "It was a valuable experience to operate a rice-planting machine," and "It was challenging to drive the machine in a way that kept the rows of seedlings straight."

With the goal of creating opportunities for "encounters and learning" between students and the local community, Kanazawa University offers extracurricular educational programs that use the local area as a learning field for its students.
