On May 10, a public lecture entitled "The Frontiers of Cancer Research and Cancer Care" was held at Kakumachi Plaza, attended by nine citizens ranging in age from their 50s to 70s.

At the beginning of the lecture, Dr. Takeyuki Suzuki, Director of Cancer Research Institute, gave the opening remarks and introduced Cancer Research Institute as the only national university-affiliated research institute specializing in cancer research as well as an educational institution to foster medical professionals in cooperation with the next generation Cancer Professional Training Plan.

He also explained the Institute's activities as a joint research center and interdisciplinary hub, and informed the audience that a public lecture would be held at the annual meeting of the Japanese Cancer Association to be held in Kanazawa in September, which would be open to the general public.

Next, Professor Masanobu Oshima from the Nano Life Science Institute gave a lecture titled "Unraveling the Malignancy of Gastrointestinal Cancer through Model Research." He provided a clear explanation of cancer incidence trends by body site and how causes of death among Japanese people have changed over time. He also discussed the mechanisms of cancer development that have been uncovered so far. Under the goal of advancing basic cancer research using mouse models and translating those findings into medical applications, he reflected on the continuous efforts researchers have been making to drive progress in this field.

One participant shared their thoughts, saying, "As we age, genetic mutations will likely accumulate, so this lecture made me reflect on the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle to prevent such mutations."
